Back to being laughed at in a foreign language

Most of the members of the community here at Terrapi speak primarily Afrikaans, which is derived from Dutch. One of the people here said to me “It must be hard not to understand what people are saying.” “Actually”, I explained, “this has been my life for the past year.” Some young volunteers came last week and reminded me of how unsettling it is at first when people are laughing, and you don’t know what they are laughing at. Yes, it is likely they are laughing at you. Go with it.
